LEARNING FROM EXPERIENCE

One senior MD told me that apperenticeship is a very good concept to teach the young and the freshie. He was in the navy and he undergo the apprenticeship that is termed as midshipman. They started off in the middle of the ship...and that is why they were called midshipman.

Apperenticeship was introduced by the British. Japanese, Chinese and most people practice the similar method except a few. An apperentice must obey every order even though the job has nothing to do with what the person is supposed to do.

His rationale was very simple. If a manager is required to make tea for his boss, he must do so. Why? Because one day when the tea lady is sick, and the manager is the only person with the MD, who is to make tea if not him. Same goes with photostating, vacuum the carpet etc.

Other wise we will some people who can't even pick up the litter on the floor even though it is right under their nose. It may also be a problem of ego, or he/she is at the wrong place to show his /her pride.

The worst I've seen is the general worker and junior clerk who refused to pick up few papers on the carpet. They rather call a cleaner just to do that.
